We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer to help Astley Digital design, build and improve dependable web experiences, internal tools and service integrations. This is a remote UK role for someone who enjoys taking a project from a well-shaped idea through to secure, maintainable production code.
You will work across the front end, back end and the APIs between them, collaborating with technical and commercial colleagues to create useful products rather than technology for its own sake.
What you will be doing
- Build responsive, accessible and polished interfaces using modern HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Develop and maintain PHP and WordPress functionality, including custom themes, plugins and editor-friendly components.
- Design reliable integrations with REST APIs and third-party business systems.
- Work with relational databases, data modelling and efficient queries.
- Turn requirements and designs into clear technical plans and production-ready features.
- Review, test and improve existing code with a focus on security, performance and maintainability.
- Diagnose issues across the full stack and communicate the cause and resolution clearly.
- Use version control and sensible release practices to ship changes safely.
- Contribute ideas that improve our products, customer journeys and development standards.
What we are looking for
- Commercial experience delivering full-stack web projects.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and responsive interface development.
- Confident PHP development experience; practical WordPress knowledge is highly valuable.
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs and working with JSON.
- A sound understanding of SQL, relational databases and data integrity.
- Comfort using Git and working with structured development and review workflows.
- Good awareness of application security, privacy, accessibility and web performance.
- The ability to investigate unfamiliar systems, ask useful questions and take ownership of a solution.
- Clear written communication and reliable remote working habits.
- Experience with cloud services, hosting infrastructure or automation would be useful.
